As a speaker and author, Melissa does not shy away from teaching difficult passages, but her focus is on speaking words of hope, healing, and restoration. With years of experiences as a teacher, Melissa knows how to engage her audience and help them remember key truths about God.
She also writes stories of hope and newfound love set in beautiful waterfront towns and cities. Between plotting stories and making edits, she strolls to a nearby lake to look at the water lapping at the banks to help her brain recharge. She and her husband Kevin live in Florida, which provides inspiration for the setting of her stories. Her favorite pastime is visiting with her family and helping her children achieve their goals and dreams.
Currently, Melissa is pursuing her Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies. She writes Sunday school lessons and Bible curricula for Union Gospel Press, and she is a freelance writer and editor for Zondervan. She is also a correspondent for the Highlands News-Sun and the Highlands Sun. Her other publishing credits include freelance work for the American Bible Society, Group Publishing, and In Celebration, a division of McGraw-Hill.
Talk: How to be a Proverbs 31 woman: Does the Proverbs 31 woman sound intimidating? Does she ever rest? How can you even compare? Learning about the historical background of the Proverbs 31 woman and understanding the biblical context of this passage makes the Proverbs 31 woman sound much less daunting. After hearing about the passage's background, you may even say, "Yes, I can be a Proverbs 31 woman!"
However, not only can you be a Proverbs 31 woman, but you can also be like Mary, of the famous Mary and Marth duo, who sat at the feet of Jesus and learned from him. Combining the truths displayed in both these biblical women--Mary and the Proverbs 31 woman--provides a model for you to serve others and draw closer to God.
Workshop: Newspaper Publicity for Your Book: As a former full-time newspaper reporter and as a current freelance reporter, I have conducted numerous interviews. Reporters want to write interesting articles that will engage readers, but their time is limited. The strict deadlines and quick turn-around times make writing the best story challenging, but authors can work with reporters to provide valuable information and ensure that they have quality photos to use in the story. There are many tips and tricks that you can use to help the newspaper reporter write an article that will interest readers and compel them to buy your book.

I saw Melissa speak at a women's event at Sebring Christian Church. She was wonderful. Melissa spoke clearly and confidently. She spoke from the heart; you could tell she believed what she said. She also had a good knowledge of the Bible. In addition, Melissa's speech was organized and her points well thought out. She has a sweet and warm voice that was enjoyable to listen to. I look forward to hearing her again!
