Rev. Dr. Donna Cox is Professor of Music at the University of Dayton (OH) where she teaches sacred music, worship and conducts the Ebony Heritage Singers, the University Gospel Choir.
She is a graduate of Washington University St. Louis where she received the Ph.D. and M.M. degrees in Performance Practices: Choral Conducting and the University of Dayton where she earned the M.A. in Theological Studies. Dr. Cox has done presentations in various parts of the world, including Jamaica, Hawaii, Prague, Italy, England, Brazil, Scotland, Ireland and Ghana. Her scholarly research includes publications in The African American Lectionary, The Journal of Black Sacred Music, Triad, Rejoice!, Ethnomusicology, chapters in the books, Mastering The Art of Success and Black Women In The Academy: Promises and Perils and articles published in the Encyclopedia Of Gospel Music.
Dr. Cox has authored several books including No Longer Afraid: Breaking Free of The Fears That Have You Bound, Angels Encamped About Me: Provision In The Wilderness, Hezekiah Loves Music, a chapter, Mastering Success So Success Doesn't Master You, in the book Mastering The Art of Success and Anthology of Art Songs & Spirituals By African American Composers. Her most recent book is the second in her children's series, Hezekiah Loves Music: A Sacred Adventure. She is working on two projects: Encountering God Through Music and Suit Up, a small group study on spiritual warfare.
Dr. Cox regularly conducts workshops and symposia celebrating the works and lives of African American composers and arrangers. She has gained recognition throughout the academic community for elevating the study of gospel music within the college curricula. A much-sought lecturer, her session.
She is ordained by the American Baptist Churches USA and is founder and pastor-at-large of Doxology Ministries International, Inc. She is an active member of the Dayton Vineyard in Beavercreek where she leads Koinonia, a home group and conducts the Vineyard Choral Ensemble.
