Writing 101: How to Kickstart Your Writing Ministry
Would you like to minister to others through writing? Come learn the basics for getting started and leave with a plan for beginning your life as a writer.
In this topic you will:
learn to clarify your writing goals (e.g., Do you want to write devotions? articles? books?),
learn how to benefit from other writers (e.g., writers conferences and books, critique partners, beta readers, and a good editor),
learn how to overcome common obstacles to writing (e.g., finding time, staying energized when discouraged), and
identify three actionable steps you can take this week to move you forward.
I never planned to be a writer, but after feeling called about 20 years ago to write a few devotions, I have found writing to be an enjoyable and meaningful way to minister to others. In addition to those early devotions, I ended up writing a number of articles for magazines and professional publications that intersect with faith. Most recently, I have written two books and am working on another. I present this topic in light of 2 Corinthians 9:8: "And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work," with confidence that if we are called to something, God provides resources to help us follow through.
