Learning to forgive from the heart is not something I ever learned about growing up. In my family we kept score of every wrong, every offense. And when people racked up enough wrongs and offenses, we cut them off--in some cases permanently. Forgiveness was a lesson the Lord began to teach me first with my father who, at the time, I hated with a passion and thought of as a monster when he got angry. It was the mercy of God that taught me to see the man in the monster, and begin to love and forgive.
