I didn't experience the love of a father growing up. But when I found out I had a Father in heaven who loved me more than any earthly father could, my life was forever changed Love is the defining characteristic of Christ and should be the defining characteristic of those who belong to Him.

From “In the beginning, God created…,” to the last words of Revelation, “I am coming quickly…” the Bible is a beautiful love letter from God. Everything that God created and that has been revealed to us through scripture is motivated by love. Written over a period of 1500 years, His holy words are the full disclosure of Himself and the absolute revelation and demonstration of His perfect love for humankind through His Son, Jesus Christ, sent to earth in human flesh. Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, everything that Jesus said and did while on earth as the God-man was motivated by God’s perfect love for His creation.
Love is an action word meaning that a person’s love for others is best expressed through their actions rather than just by saying “I love you.” We enjoy hearing those three little words, but better yet is to have those words backed up with actions.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighborand hate your enemy.’But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven… If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?... And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.”
Be perfect as God is perfect? This is a challenging verse we will delve into.
Multiple scriptures on love are shared and expounded on throughout this message.
